Cincinnati-based FKI Logistex Auto-mation Division has introduced the vhsWEDGE, an advanced, high-speed, multi-lane merging system for high-volume sortation operations. The system can operate at speeds of up to 600 feet a minute, with throughput rates of 200 cartons a minute. Executives said after delivery from the accumulator, gapping conveyors measure carton dimensions and calculate an appropriate-sized gap using photo-eye controls. The belt’s speed and duration are also adjusted as cartons transfer to the servo-staging belt and is monitored by the main system controller. Executives said it is suited for applications where numerous product lanes merge onto a central conveyer.
